Patricia "Patti" Slater

Patricia Mary “Patti” (Maloney McCormick) Slater, 79, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Peace Home on May 5, 2022.

Patti was born December 2, 1942, in St. Paul, MN to Daniel and Ella (Oertlepp) Maloney, the youngest of seven children. Her birth mother passed away suddenly when she was two, and her birth father eventually made the difficult decision to put the younger kids in foster care. Patti and her sister Eileen were adopted by their parents Ronald and Norma (Miller) McCormick when they were four and six years old.

She attended Our Lady of Peace High School and the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in Sociology. She spent almost her entire career as a social worker for Ramsey County, first working with children, then the developmentally disabled, and finally the elderly. While there she touched many lives and developed lifelong friendships.

Patti wed Frank Slater, the love of her life to whom she was married for 50 years, on July 3, 1969. She grew to share Frank's strong affection for lakes and rivers. They raised their children on Peltier Lake, then moved to Big Marine, and spent their later years on Forest Lake. They wintered on Cape San Blas in Port St. Joe, FL.

Patti was a patient, kind and caring soul who loved her family and friends. She was always active, biking and walking, and enjoyed her grandchildren tremendously.

Patti was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Slater, her parents, her brothers Don, Ed, and Jim Maloney, and her sister, Eileen Ferrari. She is survived by her brother Dan Maloney and sister Shirley Meyers, her children Dave Slater (Amanda Stocke) and Carrie Slater Duffy (Patrick), grandchildren Mike and Megan Slater and Alex Patricia Duffy, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation at 10 AM and service at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon, will be held on Thursday, May 19 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1250 S Shore Dr, Forest Lake.

Memorials may be given to the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy.
