Mary Lou Simonson

Mary Lou Simonson, age 79, of Scandia, died, Saturday, August 17, 2019 while surrounded by her family at Birchwood Health Care Center.  Mary Lou Simonson was a graduate of Stillwater High School in 1958 as Mary Louise Zimmer.  She was raised in Marine on St. Croix and kindled an interest in Floyd Simonson who became her husband in 1961 at Christ Lutheran Church in Marine on St. Croix.  Soon after she was married, she and Floyd moved into the Scandia home place that Floyd was born and raised, and she went on to start her family with children in 1962.  She had two amazing careers one as a Dental Assistant and then became a police officer for 18 years in the community of Scandia.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert L and Veronica (Schorr) Zimmer; husband, Floyd; brother, Robert Zimmer Jr.; sister, Elaine Anderson.  She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Randall (Suzie) Simonson, Laurie (Chris) Holton; grandchildren, Jacob (Lindsey) Simonson, Becca Simonson; several step-grandchildren; sisters, Veronica (Lowell) Benson, Elizabeth “Betty” Ranalls; sister-in-law, Arbutus Shalander; nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Elim Lutheran Church, 20971 Olinda Trail North, Scandia.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, August 26, 2019 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Scandia.
