John "Jack" Schloesser

January 12, 1948 — January 8, 2022

Linwood Township

John “Jack” Stanley Schloesser was born January 12, 1948 in Shakopee, Minnesota to John and Ida Schloesser.  He first lived on a farm in Webster, Minnesota until the family moved to South St. Paul where he grew up and attended South St. Paul schools where he graduated.

After high school graduation, Jack joined the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam.  During his distinguished service in the Marine Corps and returning from Vietnam, Jack was offered a prestigious position with the US Embassy.  He was recruited from the Pentagon by the Commander of the Marine Corps.   Because of his selfless service and dedication to duty, Jack refused this honorable position and volunteered to return to Vietnam for a second combat tour.  Jack was promoted to Staff Sergeant E6 and had the honor to serve as a Platoon leader in combat.  His tactical expertise and leadership saved many US Marine lives.  While in the service he received a Medal of Valor for his courageous service to his nation.  He served from 1966-1969.

He was married to Sharon and they raised their three children in Onamia, Minnesota.  He farmed, raising chickens, cows and horses.  He also owned a radiator shop for a few years.  At one time he worked as a cabinet maker.  After his divorce, he moved to the Twin Cities where he worked as a construction laborer at the St. Paul Marathon Refinery until his retirement in 2012.

In July of 2011 he met a gal online that rode a motorcycle like himself.  He and Debra began a relationship that led to them getting married on June 30, 2012.  Together, they bought a log home in Stacy, Minnesota where they began their life together along with their dog, Toby; whom they love very much.  Jack became the neighborhood policeman, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary in the neighborhood.  He had a big heart and would help out in any way he could.

Jack so enjoyed life!  He had a heart attack nearly five years ago that led to many health issues making it hard for him to do the things he loved to do.  This decline eventually led to his passing on Saturday, January 8, 2022.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida; brothers, Stanley, Kenneth, Gus, Terry; sister, Jeroline.  He is survived by his wife, Debra Schloesser; children, David Schloesser, Kellen (Gregory) Spickerman, Adam (Sylvia) Schloesser; seven grandchildren; Debra’s children, Shane (Krysteen) Hjulberg, Tanya Mathews, Cassandra (Chad) Morley, Melissa Hjulberg, Angela (Scott) Thomas, Christina (Michael) Miles, Rebecca Hjulberg; 23 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Rodney Schloesser; sister, Doreen (Tom) Yezek; many nieces and nephews.
