William “Bill” Charles Johnson passed peacefully from this life on July 25, 2026, at the age of 77, after a courageous, nearly four-decade journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Bill was born on March 15, 1949, and was lovingly adopted by Charles and Gertrude Johnson, beginning their family. He graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Gail Eagan. They were united in marriage on September 11, 1971, and made their home in Chisago City, Minnesota, where they raised their two children, Mason and Ashley. Bill worked as a plumber until MS forced him into an early retirement. Although Bill and Gail later divorced, they remained friends and continued to share a bond through their children and grandchildren.
Bill appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time at the family’s hobby farm and lake home, riding his tractor, relaxing in the barn, visiting with neighbors, listening to blues music, drinking Pepsi, and following the weather radar. He also loved his dogs, Bear and Zac, who were faithful companions throughout the years. After his diagnosis, Bill became active in the MS community and valued the friendships and support he found there.
For the past 17 years, Birchwood Health Care Center in Forest Lake became Bill’s home. His family is deeply grateful to the compassionate staff who cared for him with kindness, dignity, and respect throughout his long battle with MS. Their unwavering care brought comfort not only to Bill but also to those who loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude Johnson; his former wife and lifelong friend, Gail Eagan; and other beloved family members.
He is survived by his son, Mason (Ana) Johnson; daughter, Ashley James (formerly Fetch); grandchildren, Ethan Johnson, Elanea Johnson, Jaxon Fetch, Lahna Fetch; great granddaughter, Athena Johnson; his sister, Deb Scott; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
A Memorial Service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, Minnesota. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
