Therese Marie (Tessier) Engquist, Forest Lake, Minn. found peace in the arms of the Lord early Sunday morning, December 5, 2021. She passed away peacefully with her children by her side. Born July 9, 1953, Therese was the daughter of Joe and Carol Tessier. Once her family moved to a farm in Forest Lake, Therese was a Forest Lake resident for life. She was a majorette in the high school marching band, Forest Lake High School Class of 1971. Her classmates were her life-long friends, and she was dedicated to gathering them every five years for a reunion that she and her classmates planned. She worked at the Carousel Beauty Salon for more than 40 years, making generation after generation look good with haircuts, perms and shampoo-sets. Therese was the mother of two children, Amanda and Tyler. She was selfless in her support of them in every stage of their lives. A collector of friends and pottery, Therese loved Christmas, baking bars, playing dimes and dice, bargain shopping, ice water with lots of ice and she loved her family. Her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and her children and grandchildren meant everything, and she never missed an opportunity to gather with them for Sunday football game potlucks, Friday night birthday drinks, casino adventures, Schultz Golf Tournaments, Tessier Christmases, cabin weekends, post-Thanksgiving girls weekends, festivities at Joe’s garage, granddaughters' birthday parties and summertime pool days. Therese was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Tom) DePhillips; son, Tyler (Jill) Engquist; grandchildren, Erin and Brita DePhillips, Ruby and Eleanor Engquist; sisters, Marge (Brad) Miller; Anne Tessier, Wendy (Paul) Poynter; brothers, Joe (Laurie) Tessier; Bill (Karen) Tessier; Tim (Mindy) Tessier; Jeff Tessier; and loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and thousands of friends (she knew everyone). The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday December 13, 2021 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake with interment immediately following in the Faith Lutheran Church Prayer Garden. A celebration at the VFW Post #4210, Forest Lake, will follow.
In honor of her grateful and generous heart, her children and grandchildren are requesting Therese’s loving family and friends to finish the work she started in supporting Toys for Tots. Leading up to Thanksgiving, Therese mentioned that she was disappointed that she didn't get to do her toy shopping this year. What we never knew was that every year, she shopped the clearance toy shelves at Walmart and Target - to get the best deal of course, usually at 80 to 90% off. She said she could get giant bags of toys when they clearanced everything out and before the new toy displays went up (she was such a bargain shopper!). Toys will be collected at the gathering and church service. Thank you to those who have already donated to this cause during her hospital stay. As an alternative if preferred, memorials may be directed to the family.
