Forest Lake

Cecilia A. "Sally" Simpson, age 93, formerly of Chisago City, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 while surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born July 25, 1929 in St Paul, MN, the daughter of Alvin and Ebba (nee Tierney) Jansen. She graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1947, where she was a proud member of the marching band. Prior to graduation, Sally spent a summer in Glacier National Park working as a waitress. It was there she met her future husband, Wally (Walter) Simpson. She returned home to Minnesota that summer and as fate allowed; Wally and some friends had rented the apartment over her parents' garage. The two were united in marriage in 1950, blessed to have celebrated 70 years together, prior to Wally's passing in 2020. They raised their 7 children in St. Paul and then in Minneapolis.  Sally and Wally were the founders of Cold Type Setters, where she managed the finances until her retirement. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her Once a Month for Lunch Bunch.  Sally was always busy and enjoyed golfing, road trips, and volunteering. She was boundlessly joyful, gracious, and giving, particularly with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her strong faith carried her through life.  Sally is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally; brother, Joe Jansen. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her including her children, Sandy Simpson Totzke; Greg, Dave (Judy), Bill (Carin), Jim (Peg), Cindy (Rick) Siewert, Laurie (Paul) Finnegan; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mike Jansen, Midge Hennemann, Tom (Sally) Jansen; and many family and friends.  Thank You!!!
