RUTH AUDREY (JOHNSON, SHANE) VOGT

AGE 100 OF SCANDIA

Ruth was born on January 23, 1926, the daughter of Arthur and Esther Johnson of Scandia. She passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the Meadows on Fairview in Wyoming, MN where she had lived for almost four years.

Ruth grew up in Scandia and attended the Big Lake one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Forest Lake High School in 1943. She attended business college and worked as a bookkeeper at several insurance agencies as well as the Turkey Growers of Minnesota. She met her first husband, Russell Shane, while helping at a neighbor's wedding reception. They were married in 1949 and made their home in St. Paul. Following Russ's stroke and passing in 1967, Ruth worked at Arcade Dental Office. She made many lasting friendships and often remarked how much fun she had with her coworkers. It was there that one of the dentists introduced her to David Vogt, who became her second husband. Ruth and Dave shared many happy years together, and she was a beloved member of his family. Together they built a home on the Johnson family farm, bringing Ruth back to her cherished Scandia roots.

Ruth was a faithful member of Elim Lutheran Church and was actively involved in the Parkside Garden Club and the Good Cheer Club. She was known as a kind and gracious woman with a warm, loving personality and a smile for everyone. Ruth deeply loved her family, friends, church, and community. Although she had no children of her own, she was a devoted and loving second mother to her niece, Virginia Coller, and to her nephews, Kenny and Richard Lund and stepchildren, Carol (Vogt) and Allen Frechette and Warren Vogt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Russ and Dave; her sister, Edryce Lund; her brother, Warren Johnson; her brother-in-law, Carl Lund; her nephews, Kenny and Richard Lund; in-laws; and many pets especially her beloved feline friend, Zoey.

Ruth is lovingly remembered for her unconditional love by her stepchildren, Carol (Allen) Frechette and Warren Vogt (Rhonda Roth); her granddaughters Janelle Frechette and Lexi (Aaron) Temple; and her great-grandson, Myles. She is also fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many family members and friends who treasured the time they spent with this very special lady.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Meadows on Fairview for their kindness and compassionate care. You loved Ruth as your own, and for that we are deeply grateful. Also, to Pastor Seth Perry and her Elim Lutheran Church family for their visits and prayers.
