Rita Josephine Tetrault, a beloved and esteemed member of the Columbus, Minnesota community, passed away at the age of 95 on August 19, 2024. Born on November 14, 1928, to Matthew and Josephine (Parenteau) Hauble in Columbus Township, Minnesota, Rita was a woman of unwavering dedication and grace.
A graduate of Forest Lake High School, Rita followed her dream and joined the ice follies, where she met and married her husband, Norman Tetrault. In the mid 60s they ventured into the realm of real estate development , founding Tetrault Construction Co. Together, they left an indelible mark on the community by constructing numerous homes and developing over a hundred acres of their own land and the nearby family farm in Columbus.
Rita's commitment to her community extended beyond her professional endeavors. She served on the Columbus Planning Commission and the Forest Lake School Board, embodying a spirit of service and civic responsibility. As an instructor at Skateland in Forest Lake, Rita shared her passion for skating with countless youths, leaving a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
In her leisure time, Rita found joy in skiing and sailing with her family, reflecting her adventurous spirit and love for life. After retirement, she and Norm spent winters in Alamo, Texas where they enjoyed community theatre, water volleyball, playing cards, and visiting with the other residents of Alamo Rose RV park. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rita is survived by her children, Daniel (Avis) Tetrault, Denise (Roland) Ostendorf, Ray (Sally) Tetrault, Phil (Lori) Tetrault, Dave Tetrault, Leo (Bonnie) Tetrault, Paul (Orvelina) Tetrault, Angie (Derek) Graziosi; 26 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Audrey Brown; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; son, Edward; grandson, Cody Ostendorf; 5 sisters; 2 brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake.
Rita will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in eternal peace.
