Deacon Ralph L’Allier, 89, died peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2026, with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Delia L’Allier; stepmother, Hildur L’Allier, and sisters, Claudette Meyer and Rochelle Smith. Ralph married the love of his life, Louise, in 1957. They were married for 68 years and have six children, Franciscan Sister Michelle L’Allier, David (Elizabeth) L’Allier, James L’Allier (fiancée, Jenny Williamson) (daughter-in-law, Connie L’Allier), Renee Hoffman, Annette (Troy) Whitman and Mark L’Allier (fiancée, Adriana Wright); brother, Leon, and sister, Yvonne (Ron) Taylor. Ralph is survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ralph was born March 21, 1936, in St. Paul. Ralph graduated White Bear Lake High School in 1954. He served with the Minnesota Air National Guard from 1954 to 1962. Ralph worked at Northland Insurance Company from 1959 to 1971. In 1971he and his partner started a new agency, Casualty Underwriters. Soon thereafter, he bought his partner out and grew the company until he sold it in 1992.
From the 1960’s through 1971 Ralph led an active civic life, serving as a Lino Lakes city council member for several years and as mayor for one term. He also served on several civic groups.
Ralph was ordained as a Catholic deacon in 1991 and assigned to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Forest Lake where he served for 30 years.
Ralph spent many years working as a volunteer for a variety of organizations. He volunteered with Listening House of St. Paul for 25 years. He loved visiting and praying with people in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. He had a special love for people on the margins.
He and Louise served on the adult support committee for Young Life in Forest Lake. He also participated in an airlift to Sweden with the Full Gospel Businessmen. Ralph and Louise were members of the Abundant Life Prayer Group at St. Peter’s for many years and enjoyed traveling and dancing, especially polkas and old-time waltzes

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2026 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake, Minnesota.
