It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul N. Theis on December 7, 2025, at the age of 66. Paul, a cherished father, grandfather, companion, and friend, left us suddenly, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on September 1, 1959, in Blaine, Minnesota, Paul was the third of four children to Alvin and Marilyn Theis. After graduating from Blaine High School in 1978, Paul began his career at NCR Comten before moving on to work at Stone Container and later Rosenbauer in Wyoming, MN. He took great pride in his work, and at the time of his passing, he was still employed at Rosenbauer.
Paul was a man who loved adventure. He traveled extensively across the United States, visiting many states, including Alaska and Mexico. He had a passion for collecting souvenirs from his travels and enjoyed sharing stories of his journeys with his family.
In 1981, Paul married Anna White, with whom he had three children. Although they later parted ways, Paul remained a devoted father and family man. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Anna White, and his parents, Alvin and Marilyn Theis, and stepfather, Bill Kubiak.
Paul’s life was rich with interests and hobbies. He had an enduring love for watching old Westerns and cartoons, particularly The Flintstones and Tom and Jerry. His fondness for Disney movies and classic films brought joy and nostalgia to his everyday life. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, waterfalls, parades and fireworks. Also gambling, visiting casinos, and playing Bingo.
Paul had a sweet tooth and was known for his love of Twinkies, Lindt Truffles, and all things sugary. But perhaps his most unexpected and loving connection was with the house cat, Blackie, who brought him much joy and companionship.
On January 19, 2013, Paul met Lonna Doran, a friendship that turned into a lasting relationship. Their relationship was filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Lonna was the light of Paul's life in his later years, and he cherished their time together.
He is survived by his beloved partner, Lonna Doran; children Nicholas (Jana) Theis, Nichole (Lance) Phillips, and Marie (Chris) Larson; grandchildren Jonathon, Elizabeth (Kevin), Samantha (Daniel), Clara (Weston), Cynthia (Beau), Krystal, Angelo, Justin, Luther, and Lakota; great-granddaughters Serafina, Genevieve, and Persephone; sisters Michelle (Ron) Ziegler, Jeanne (Doug) Iverson, and Mary (Rich) Knickerbocker; his beloved cat Blackie; and many other relatives and friends.
A life filled with love, laughter, and joy has come to an untimely end, but Paul’s legacy will live on through his family, his memories, and his unmistakable presence in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service. Private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
