Neil W. Spiess

Neil W. Spiess, age 72, of Forest Lake, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.  Neil was born on March 21, 1950, in Springfield, Minnesota the son of Earl and Augusta (Thompson) Spiess.  He met the love of his life, Margot Evans while in high school and was united in marriage on April 12, 1969, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  They made their home in Forest Lake, Minnesota where they raised ten amazing children.  Neil was the proud owner and operator of North Central Stamping and Manufacturing Inc.  In his free time, he was an avid bow hunter, fisherman and devoted husband, father, and grandpa.  When a man as incredible as Neil dies, there are no words strong enough to describe the pain; especially when that man made the greatest effort to be there for everyone in his life.  Neil will be forever remembered as a loving, adventurous, hardworking, faith filled man with a competitive spirit who had a loud laugh and playful sense of humor.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Evelyn and Charlotte Spiess; siblings, Luella Drawdy, Karen Roush, Sylvia Rehbein, Norma Williams, Ernest Spiess, Darlene Colson.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Margot; children, Chad (Maria) Spiess, Jillene Chitulangoma, Adam (Lindsey) Spiess, Rebekah (Michael) Zinnecker, Matthew Spiess, Andrew (Katie) Spiess, Angela (Jeffrey) Carlson, Kate (Alex) Ramirez, Leah (Jeremy) Willms, Marian Spiess; 39 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn McClintock, Duane Spiess, Gary (Annette) Spiess, Elieen (David) Anderson; other family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass at the church.  Interment IS POSTPONED at St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery, 31203 180th St., Sanborn, Minnesota.  Memorials may be directed to Cross Catholic Outreach.
