Forest Lake

Michael Jude Christen, a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and devoted member of the community, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on December 14, 2023, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born on August 22, 1954, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, to Isadore and Bernadine Christen.

Michael led a fulfilling life, dedicated to the service of others. After completing his education, he completed his apprenticeship as a Carmen welder with Burlington Northern Railroad in 1979.  He later became a caregiver working in a group home for developmentally disabled adults.  Finally, he embarked in a career as a security guard at Little Sisters of the Poor, an organization close to his heart. He took great pride in ensuring the safety and well-being of those in his care.

Above all, Michael cherished his family. He shared a beautiful life with his loving wife, Margaret Christen, whom he married on November 23, 1974.  Together they raised their family in the Forest Lake area after living in Saint Joseph, Minnesota.   Michael's role as a grandpa was central to his identity, and he took great pleasure in attending all of his grandchildren’s school events and sporting activities.

Michael's sincere devotion to his faith and the Catholic Church was apparent in all aspects of his life. He attended Saint Paul Seminary and completed a two-year program in May 2014, receiving his certificate of completion of the class of blessed John Paul II Catechetical.  As an active member of The Church of Saint Peter, he served as an usher and regularly attended to the adoration chapel. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  His faith provided him with solace and guidance throughout his journey.

Additionally, Michael had a deep passion for music. Whether it was attending concerts or simply enjoying his favorite genres at home, he found solace and joy in the melodies that resonated with his soul.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Anna Reuter.  He will be deeply missed by his wife, Margie; children, Max Christen, Mary (Christopher ) Anderson; grandchildren, Carsen Anderson, Jentry Anderson, Marissa, Keira; siblings, Pixie (Roger) Muntifering, Trudy Lyon, Dennis Christen, MariPat Schmidtbauer, Richard (Dianne) Christen, Robert (Jean) Christen; goddaughter, Amanda Vandermay; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to mass at the church.  Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake.  Memorial are preferred to the family.

Michael Jude Christen will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the Divine.
