Lyle Root, 91, a man whose life radiated faith and service, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 13, 2024. Born on June 14, 1933, Lyle's journey on this earth was one marked by his dedication to his community and his profound kindness towards others.
A member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Anoka, Lyle's commitment to his congregation was unwavering. Whether flipping pancakes for seniors/home Bible study, maintaining the church building, or participating in charitable causes like Toys for Joy, Kiwanis, and Relay for Life, Lyle embodied the spirit of generosity. His consistent blood donations to the Red Cross, amounting to over 33 gallons, exemplified his altruistic nature.
In addition to his service work, Lyle found solace in the quiet of the outdoors, especially during his beloved annual deer hunting trips to "The Shack." A dedicated poet and crossword enthusiast, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His legacy as a devoted elementary school teacher and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Lyle's memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His compassionate heart and selfless spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Caroline; siblings, Joyce Root, Erline (Ed) Nelson, Betty (Ed) Marlow, Forrest (Rae Carol), Lona Haskins; and dear friend, Gerald Johnson.
He is survived by brother, Jerry (Dorothy); brother-in-law, Charlie Haskins; many nieces and nephews; adopted family, Marlys Johnson; Steve (Carrie) Johnson and their family.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lyle Root will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Anoka, where he faithfully worshiped.
The funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 700 Western Street, Anoka, MN. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 700 Western Street, Anoka and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. This will be a testament to the impact Lyle had on the lives of many, showcasing the love and legacy he leaves behind. Following the service, Lyle will be laid to rest with military honors at Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka.
Lyle's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy of service and kindness will endure as a beacon of light in a world that he made brighter.
