Luann Novotny — devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished by many — passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 85, in Ramsey, MN.
Luann was born on October 12, 1940, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to William and Eleanor Kromer. After graduating from high school, she began her career at 3M. It was there that she met the love of her life, Donald “Don” Novotny. Luann and Don were married in 1962 and celebrated 60 years of marriage together in October 2022. They welcomed a son, Jeff, in 1963 and a daughter, Jody, in 1967.
Throughout her life, Luann found joy in caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. At the lake, she could often be found picking up sticks, reading, or thoughtfully planning and preparing meals for those she loved.
After retiring from 3M, the couple embraced a slower pace of life closer to nature when they moved to Crooked Lake in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. They treasured their time at the lake and also spent many winters traveling to Florida in their motorhome, making countless memories together.
Luann is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Kromer; her beloved husband, Don; and her brothers, Bill (Opal) Kromer, Bob (Eileen) Kromer, Tom Kromer, and Bernard Kromer. She is survived by her children, Jeff and Jody and their families, including 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Janet Kromer and Dorothy Davies.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd, Lindstrom, MN. The family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
