Lornell Idah (Gilstad) Kopp of Marine on St Croix, MN died May 5, 2024, age 11 days short of 100 years. Lornell was one of the well-known Gilstad twins on the east side of St. Paul. With her sister Bernell they went to school, rode bikes, ice skated, went to camp, dressed alike and occasionally changed places on double dates (unknown to the boys). With her future husband Bob, she graduated from St Paul Johnson High School in 1942. She married Bob in 1949 and had 70 happy years together. Together they raised four boys, spent weekends at the cabin, rode the pontoon, traveled throughout the country and the world. She loved her four sons, but was very excited the first grandchild was a girl. Lornell loved sewing, scrapbooking, baking (the World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies), walking, church and singing. Lornell slalom water skied into her 70th year.
She is preceded in death by parents Art & Idah (Nelson) Gilstad, sister Bernell Bewell and husband Robert.
She is already deeply missed by her sister Shirley Broos; sons Bradley (Elizabeth), Lindsey, Terry (Cynthia), Scotty; grandchildren Angela, Charles (Adelyn), Robert (Jess), Colleen, Sarah (Marcus) and Joseph; great grandkids Juliana, Ronald, Lilly and Lydia; many, many friends.
A Celebration of Lornell's Life will be held at 2 PM, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN. Family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.Memorials can be made to:
