Julie M. Niemi

Julie M. Niemi, age 64, passed away on May 30, 2025, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, she remained the thoughtful, kind, and giving person that everyone knew and loved.

Julie had a deep love for people and a special gift for making friends wherever she went. With a heart full of compassion and a generous spirit, she was always putting others first. Her sense of humor and warmth brought comfort and joy to those around her.

A dedicated nurse, Julie poured her heart into caring for every patient she encountered. Her work was not just a job—it was a reflection of who she was: someone who deeply valued the wellbeing of others.

She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Patrick, and her father, Harold. She is survived by her sons, Allan and Joseph; husband, Robert Winterfeld; mother, Marlys Vijums; siblings, Crystal (Thomas) Longtin, Holly Kostohryz, and John Lehman; stepdaughter, Susan (Derek) Thompson; stepson, Robb (Beth) Winterfeld; grandchildren, Gavin, Davis, Lydia, and Lane; as well as many other family members and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held from 4:00–7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2025, also at Mattson Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Julie’s legacy of kindness, love, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
