Janet Louise Lindgren, a woman of faith and love, left this world on December 8, 2023 at the age of 86, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 7, 1937, she was the adored daughter and only child of Ray and Florence Anderson. Jan's life will be joyously celebrated for the many blessings she brought to her family and the community, and the legacy she leaves behind.
Janet graduated from Minnehaha Academy, Class of 1955. She married Dave Benson in 1956 and they had four children. Jan's children - Don (Ruth Ann) Benson, Deb (Tim) Harris, Darryn (Pat) Schmidt, and Dori Benson - were the foundation of her world.
In 1966, Jan married Harvey Lindgren and together they raised a large and loving family, which was her dream. Jan's bond with her step-children – Bonnie Lindgren, Kermit (Bev) Lindgren, Grace (Saul) Carbajal, Michele Lindgren, and Kevin (Carmen) Lindgren – was equally strong. They, along with her grandchildren, Jonathan, Stephanie, Chuck, Chris, Ben, Rachel, Tori, Katie, Chad, Shauna, Eric, Nathan, Peter, Andrew, Brian, Michael and 22 great-grandchildren, brought much joy into her life. Jan cherished every moment spent with her family.
Beyond her family life, Jan was deeply committed to her faith. She found solace and inspiration in her walk with the Lord. Her devotion to serving others and telling the Good News of Jesus were a testament to the strength of her convictions. Jan was active in various Christian ministries and in the community. Among other things, she was a long-time member of Christian Women's groups, prison ministry, arthritis swimming instructor for YMCA and Parmly, and active in the Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia.
Jan and Harvey did a lot of traveling during their retirement years, including two trips to Alaska, the place Jan loved since living there briefly while in her twenties. In recent years, she would daily peruse her many Alaska photo albums and shared those albums with everyone at Encore North Branch, where she has lived since 2020.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 14 at Lakes Free Church, 29620 Olinda Trail, Lindstrom. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In honor of the compassionate care she received in her final days, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Ecumen Hospice.
As we gather to honor Jan's vibrant spirit, let us celebrate the life she lived and the lasting impact she had on the lives of all who knew her.
