James Holmes

James "Jim" Eric Holmes, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the Lino Lakes Assisted Living facility.
Jim was born on March 18th, 1930 in Dickens, Iowa. Jim served in the US Navy and the Iowa National Guard. He was an avid golfer and Minnesota Gopher Football fan. He enjoyed telling stories of his past or a good joke. He liked to sing a show tune musical or an old time gospel song. Jim loved to travel and he toured most of the United States. Upon retirement, he was a part time resident of Rockport, Texas.
He was a wonderful father who loved the Lord and his time with family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Yarda Holmes; his wife, Betty Holmes; his sons, Douglas and Brian Holmes.
He is survived by his sons, Steve Holmes and Todd (LoriAnn) Holmes; his grandchildren Sarah (Micah) Manganiello; Andrew (Sarah Jesperson) Holmes; Rachel Holmes; Megan (Tom) McLeod; great-grandchildren: Trinity, Aubrey, Tate, Olivia; his brothers, Thomas (Carmen) Holmes and Charles (Marva Don) Holmes; his daughter-in-law Cheryl (Ron Moody) Holmes; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He loved his extended family of Laverne Holmes and her children John (Gena) Norquist, Jim Norquist, Sarah (Guy) Distad, Susan Lundgren; and Laverne's grandchildren Kari, David (Meghan), Carl, Luke, Erik, Reid and Jack.
Jim's memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 12 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4100 Lyndale Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN 55409. Visitation at 1PM until the time of memorial service at 2 p.m. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis on October 13. Memorials may be made to the family.
