Irma Demings Morisset, age 91, of Chisago City, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who loved her, and countless little treasures that reflect the spirited woman she was.
Irma was born on November 2, 1934, in Cohasset, Minnesota, to Edward and Dora (Stockwell) Demings. She grew up on the Iron Range, where her roots ran deep. She later moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she raised her children before the family eventually returned to the Iron Range.
On June 20, 1968, Irma married Hugo Morisset. Their love story began at a family gathering, where the two met and fell in love. Together, they made their home in Nashwauk, Minnesota, where they shared many years of life and memories before moving to Forest Lake in 2012.
Irma had a special way of turning simple pleasures into something meaningful. She loved to craft, especially crocheting beautiful doilies, tablecloths, and blankets. Each piece was made with care, and her creations became lasting reminders of the time and love she put into the things she made. When berry-picking season arrived, Irma was ready. She looked forward to gathering berries and making her famous jams, sharing a little sweetness with those around her.
She also loved a good treasure hunt and could often be found browsing the local Goodwill stores, always on the lookout for her next great find. You never knew what treasure Irma might discover, but the hunt was part of the fun.
In 2022, Irma moved to Parmly Assisted Living in Chisago City, where she quickly became a beloved resident. She formed friendships with many of the staff and fellow residents, leaving her mark with her unmistakable personality and spirited nature. Irma was feisty, direct, and never one to hide what she thought. Those who knew her understood that she was very much her own person. She also had a few favorite indulgences that became part of her familiar routine: potato chips, root beer, and Werther's candies. The people at Parmly who came to know and care for her will remember those little details, along with the personality that made Irma uniquely Irma.
Irma's life was filled with family, creativity, simple pleasures, and a determination to do things her own way. Whether she was crocheting something beautiful, making a batch of homemade jam, searching for treasures, or enjoying her favorite treats, she found joy in the things that made life her own. She will be remembered for her strong spirit, her straightforward nature, and the memories she leaves with those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Irma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugo; her daughter, Peggy Glendenning; and fifteen siblings.
She is survived by her son, Virgil (Roxanne) Johnson; grandchildren, Kyle Johnson, Kristi (Chad) Jacoway, Duane Glendenning, Darla Breevaart, Jeremy Glendenning, and Bobby Glendenning; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A visitation will be held from 1:00–2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, Minnesota. A graveside service will follow at Scandinavian Cemetery in Forest Lake.
Irma will be remembered for the life she lived, the things she lovingly created, the treasures she found, and the unmistakable spirit she brought to the people around her. May the memories she leaves behind bring comfort to all who loved her.
