Helen was born April 7, 1915 to Jacob & Laura (Ethen) Bonngard. She was the youngest of 15 children. She grew up in the Rice Street area and attended college in St. Paul, graduating from the U of M as a dietician. Helen enjoyed gardening and was an avid knitter, making numerous afghans. She also knitted many scarves and caps for children and to give to the Salvation Army Mitten Tree. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer Mattson, 1958; and husband Lester Heineman, 1981. She was also preceded by an adopted son, Bobbie; 8 brothers; and 6 sisters.
