Evon “Vonnie” Dorn (VanElsberg) passed away on May 30th, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by her children.
Vonnie was born on February 22, 1937, to Lloyd and Iris VanElsberg. Then came sister, Mardi, and brothers, Butch (Gary) and Bud (Allen). They lived in Hugo until Vonnie was 14, then moved to Forest Lake. Vonnie would spend the rest of her life as a resident of Forest Lake.
It was at a High School basketball game that Tom Dorn spotted her in the bleachers and had to know who she was. That was where their love story began. Tom enlisted in the Navy and Vonnie was crowned Homecoming Queen class of 1955. Vonnie and Tom would Marry in August of 1955.
Vonnie was the mother of 4, grandmother to 13 and great grandmother to 17, with one more on the way. She was delighted by each new addition to the family. Always asking for updates on what each one was doing, their accomplishments and their interests. Vonnie held various jobs in the Forest Lake area, mostly working with the public. She enjoyed meeting people and learning what made them tick. Vonnie lead a quiet life, preferring to stay close to home. It was her family that brought her the greatest joy.
Vonnie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, Tom, her brothers and son-in-law, David Lichtscheidl.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Marv), Patti, Lisa (Dennis) and Tom (Tanya); grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jillian, Daniel, Beau, Joshua, Zachary, Tyler, Travıs, Marisa, Alex, Allison, Erin; great grandchildren; Cooper, Abbie, Brock, Kaden, Meredith, Emry, Afton, Emma, Andrew, Eliana, Penelope, Levi, Rayne, Nash, Tate, Tripp, Senna, and one more on the way; sister, Mardi; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering will be held 5-7 PM, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN 55025. A Prayer Service will be held at 7 following the gathering at the funeral home. Private family burial at Calvary Cemetery, Forest Lake.
