Edward A. Timm

Edward “Ed” A. Timm, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

He was the eldest of five children of the late Howard and Ortrude (Trudy) Timm, longtime residents of Forest Lake and the original owners of Timm’s Marina on Third Lake. Ed is survived by sisters, Audrey Schultz and Luanne (Mike) Gasper and brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Charlette) Timm; six nieces, Cheryl, Jennifer, Teresa, Tara, Katie and Samantha and four nephews, Brian, Jeff, Andy and Joey and twenty-two grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Suzanne (Chris) in 2019 and Air Force friend and later brother-in law, Clay Schultz in 2006.

Ed was born in St Paul on October 8, 1943, and grew up in Forest Lake, graduating from FLHS in 1961.

He began his studies at the University of Minnesota after graduation and then while taking a break and the Viet Nam War raging, the draft going on, he decided to join the US Air Force and took his brother, 17 years old, along. Ed was an industrious young man with a solid work ethic. He served for four years with a Top-Secret clearance in Samoa, Attu, the outermost island of the Aleutians and Sacramento, CA. After the Air Force Ed returned to the U of M to complete his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He had a long career with the US Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 2000.

He always had a job waiting for him in Sacramento, CA and Frankfort Germany so he stayed about three years in each and then, missing the other location he returned, doing that several times. He loved to travel and enjoyed both European and USA trips. He loved downhill skiing in Europe and when he was in the USA.

Most of all he loved his family. Even though he spent much time away for his service and career, he never lost touch, sending letters and tapes or phoning, wanting to know how things were going and about the children of his siblings. He was particularly fond of little children. He would see them on commercials or and say, “Aren’t they cute?”

Ed’s work ethic started young. Being the oldest, he’d figure out projects for his siblings to help with, and they could range from cleaning the garage, painting a car to picking vegetables to be taken to the St Paul market. But he was always available to help whenever asked.

Ed was committed to excellence in whatever he did, in or outside of his career. A binder full of awards and commendations shows how bosses and coworkers appreciated his work. But he was humble and only when the binder was found recently did, we know of these awards.

Ed was a grateful man, always polite with those helping him, especially the caregivers in the memory care facility in St Michael, Minnesota where he lived for his final three years.

For a man who loved his freedom, Alzheimer’s disease was especially difficult, but he accepted it as best he could.

His days of suffering over eight years are finally over and he can be with his beloved family who went on to heaven ahead of him.

We will all miss Ed, his humor, generosity, concern and love. Now he rests in peace. ♥️♥️♥️

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2026, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, Minnesota. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors at Scandinavian Cemetery, Forest Lake, Minnesota.
