Edward “Chick” R. Belmore Sr., age 88, of East Bethel, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026. He was born on August 10, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Joseph and Adeline Belmore.
Following his graduation from high school, Edward proudly enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. During his service, he noticed a group of men wearing what he called “fancy uniforms.” After learning they were members of the Coast Guard, he decided to join their ranks as well. After his military service, Edward applied to both the Minneapolis Fire Department and Minneapolis Police Department. The police department called first, and he proudly dedicated the next 28 years of his life serving with the Minneapolis Police Department.
After retirement, Chick became a man of many hobbies and passions. He loved boating and restoring old wooden boats, spending countless hours bringing them back to life. He also enjoyed flying RC model airplanes — crashing many along the way — and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate lawn, never allowing the grass to grow beyond the two-inch mark. Chick enjoyed guns, treasured his dogs, and above all deeply loved his family.
Nothing brought him more joy than supporting his children and grandchildren. Whether at sporting events or family gatherings, Edward was always there cheering them on with pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Adeline; brother, Tony; sister, Clara Jean; and uncles, Glen Eagles and Ralph Eagles.
Chick is lovingly survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Edward (Heather); daughter, Theresa (Pete); grandchildren, Leah, Mikaela, Lillian, Holly, Parker; Krista (Derek), Logan, and Olivia.
A Celebration of Life honoring Edward will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Mattson Funeral Home. Private family burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
