Dorothy Ann Steiner (nee Sauerwein), age 83, longtime resident of Willernie, Minnesota, passed away after a short illness in Forest Lake, Minnesota on May 4, 2021 surrounded by family.

Dorothy graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 1957.  She met her husband Joe on a blind date (it’s been reported that she wasn’t too fond of him at first).  After a short courtship they married on June 17, 1961.  With Joe being a truck driver for most of their marriage, Dorothy spent a lot of the time raising the kids while he was out of town.

In her working years, Dorothy was a longtime employee of the Mahtomedi School District in lunch services.  She loved working there and was a joy to all she met.  She will be remembered as a fierce and kindhearted friend who was loved by all.  Dorothy’s positive outlook on life brightened many days for those who loved her.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.  If you ever wanted to know where Dorothy was she was most likely at home crocheting a blanket or a bread bag rug for many loved ones or baking cakes for someone’s special occasion.  She loved spending time with her friends and neighbors, playing Yahtzee, Boggle or just chatting it up.  Dorothy was very artistic and spent many recent years putting together puzzles, coloring in adult coloring books and playing Scrabble with family and friends.  She also loved connecting with friends virtually as she was able to more frequently communicate with her lifelong best friend, Mardi Trygg.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph George Steiner; daughter, Dorothy Ann; sons, Michael James, Joseph Carl Steiner; brothers, Robert (Bob), William (Butch) Sauerwein.  Survived by daughters, Kathleen (Perry) Rosentreter, Theresa (Kevin) Rieger, Kari (Todd) Berg and daughter-in-law Jolynn Steiner; 15 grandchildren, Michael (Chi) Steiner, Rene Vargas, Jacob (Amber) Steiner, Jeremy (Melanie) Smalley, Leah (Tony) Brehm, Andrew (Bri) Voelk, Megan (Zach) Allen, Katlyn Rieger, Jacquelyn Rieger, Kirsten (Jeremy) Bernard, Rachel (Drew) Duffy, Emily Berg, Benjamin Berg, Natalie Berg, Daniel Berg;  18 great grandchildren, Sophia, Alyson, Cruz, Xavier, Rowan, Ava, Ella, Katreana, Mason, Dawson, Adylyn, Keith, Nathan, Aiden, Avery, Connor, Dylan, Amelia; sister Margaret (Eugene) Mahoney, brother Thomas Sauerwein.  Dorothy is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 N Shore Dr, Forest Lake, MN  55025.  The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested that you purchase a Christmas Cactus for you home and think of her when it blooms.
