It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald L. Westman, age 78, of East Bethel, Minnesota. He was called home to Jesus on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, he peacefully slipped away in the comfort of his home and most importantly, by his beloved wife and dog, who, as always, sat by his side.
Donald was born on April 14, 1947, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was raised by his beloved grandparents, Jake and Martha Westman, in the small town of Quamba. He graduated from Mora High School in 1965, and began a life filled with hard work, adventure, and most of all, dedication to those he loved.
After high school, Don worked as a machine operator at Possis Corporation, but his sense of duty and love for his country led him to enlist in the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam, where he earned an honorable discharge and returned to continue his career at Possis Corporation. Seeking further education, Don attended Eveleth VoTech, where he graduated with an electrical engineering degree.
On June 1, 1977, Charlie, Georgie and Don’s first and only child was born. Shortly after, on August 26, 1977, Don and Georganne Schneider were united in marriage at the Ft. Snelling Chapel, beginning a 48-year partnership filled with love, laughter, and countless shared memories. Together, they built homes in Blaine and later in East Bethel, where they created a life rich with family, warmth, and cherished moments.
In 1983, Don took a leap of faith and started his own business, Westman Service Inc., which he and Georgie ran successfully for many years. Alongside his career, Don’s life was marked by his love for family, adventure, and the outdoors. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman, enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, fixing things, traveling, and loved spending time with his family, including his faithful dog and companion, Ralph. He also had a love for RVing, though his family fondly remembers that his RVs saw more time in the driveway than on the road.
Don was known for his outgoing nature and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He had an exceptional sense of direction and always seemed to know just where he was going, both literally and figuratively in life. He could fix anything and didn’t believe in calling a repairman ever.
His family described him as a kind, generous man and as a true "talker." He had a warm and engaging personality that made him a friend to all who crossed his path.
His priority over everything was family, and along with taking care of his child, he stepped up for nieces and nephews who needed the love of a father. Don always cared for them and did it with pride. He defended and was loyal to those he loved. He was a beautiful example of how to be a husband and a Father.
Donald knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Along with this, he was a good and faithful servant to God. He showed the love of Jesus in how he loved and cared for his people.
Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jake and Martha Westman, who were like parents to him; his mother, Betty Benson; and several aunts and uncles, who were more like siblings to him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgie; son, Charlie (Jenni) Westman; grandson, Joshua Logan (Jaiden); aunt, Darlene (Jon) O'Donnell) and his "daughter" Ambee Johnson (Dave) grandkids Olive, Hazel, and Axel; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Donald’s family and friends will forever remember him for his kindness, humor, and boundless generosity. He lived his life with integrity, honor, and a deep love for God. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
