Donald Novotny - dedicated husband, father of two, and friend of many - passed away on December 4, 2022 at the age of 87 in North Branch, MN.
Don was born to Frank and Bozenna Novotny in Montgomery, Minnesota. He was enlisted in the US Army in the 8th Field Artillery Batallion where he received numerous honors. After that he later moved to the cities to work for 3M. It was there where he met the love of his life, Luann. Don and Luann celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together in October 2022. They married in 1962, and welcomed a son, Jeff in 1963 and a daughter Jody in 1967.
Through the years, Don enjoyed fishing with his family, hunting at their Deer Shack, and making friends wherever he went. Don was a stranger to no one and never had a shortage of words or stories to share.
After retiring from 3M, they pursued a quieter life closer to nature when they moved up north on Crooked Lake in Grand Rapids, MN. At the lake, he could be found fishing, hunting, or snowmobiling. For many years they also spent their winters down in Florida in their motorhome.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Bozenna, as well as his sister Evelyn. He is survived by his wife, Luann and their children Jeff & Jody and their families, and his sister Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, in his memory, donations can be made to either the program he volunteered at “Let’s Go Fishing” through PayPal or send a check addressed to: Chisago Age Well Coalition to PO Box 538 Lindstrom MN 55045 or Wounded Warrior Project.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd, Lindstrom, MN. The family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
