Dean Erickson

Dean W. Erickson, age 62, of Linwood, Minnesota, passed away December 17, 2017. Dean was born on March 3, 1955 in Bigfork, Minnesota. He spent the first few years in Effie, Minnesota where he attended kindergarten. Before moving to the cities, he has fond memories of helping his Dad plant trees. They planted over four hundred thousand trees on the homestead. Dean moved to the cities and attended high school at Bloomington-Jefferson and graduated in 1973. He then went on to Tech School where he earned his



automotive degree. While looking for work as an automotive mechanic he worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken. This is where he met his future bride, Cheryl, and their love story began. Dean and Cheryl got married on May 20, 1978 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota. Six months before they got married, Dean was hired on as an automotive mechanic at Firestone. He started in November of 1977, and worked there for 40 years. They bought their first home in Champlin, Minnesota in 1978 where they raised four children, Jon, Joe, Jenny, and Jimmy. After 23 years, to get a little further from the city, they moved to Linwood, Minnesota. Dean's favorite place to be was in Effie, Minnesota near the homestead he lived on as a young child. Throughout his life he brought his family there, and spent a lot of time fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors. Dean was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was devoted to his family, and making sure their needs were met. After moving to Linwood, he became very close to his church family at Sunnyside Lutheran Church, and was an active member of the congregation. He is preceded in death by his father, Allen. He is survived by wife, Cheryl of 39 years; sons, Jon (Sarah) Erickson, Joe (Erica) Erickson, Jimmy (Emily) Erickson; daughter, Jenny (Dimitar) Chavdarov; grandchildren, Lana and Allen Erickson, Maurice Erickson and Sophia and Nikolai Chavdarov; mother, Frances Erickson; brothers, Dave (Liz) Erickson, Dennis (Nancy) Erickson; sister, Patty (Randy) Gentz; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Dr, Forest Lake, MN and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Sunnyside Lutheran Church, 22745 Typo Creek Dr NE, Stacy MN. Memorials preferred to Sunnyside Lutheran Church.
