Dan Spencer always said he loved his growing up years. Dan was born and raised in Staples, Minnesota, the 10th child of Marian (Kisler) and Daniel Frank Spencer. With two brothers and seven sisters, Dan lived in a home busy with family. There was love galore and music too. Always music. Dan idolized Elvis Presley, took up guitar in his teens and taught himself to become a polished picker. After graduation from Staples MN High School in 1960 he married another musician and school mate, LaVyrle Kulick. Their shared loved of playing guitars and singing together was a tie that bound them through 63 years of marriage. Living in the twin cities and Stillwater, Dan worked in construction as a surveyor and estimator, retiring early when LaVyrle became a published author. Together they travelled extensively and built a country home near Cushing, Minnesota where Dan relished nature and loved hunting with family and friends. The cabin became the heart of the Spencer’ joy in hosting many guests in grand style. Dan also loved playing baseball, basketball and golf in his younger years, then later watching them on TV. Throughout his life, Dan loved and was loved by too many nieces and nephews to name. He shared a special bond with his sisters, Jeanie Huebner and Barb Longbella. Daniel Francis Spencer died on Dec. 29, 2025 after years of battling Parkinson’s disease. He and LaVyrle were blessed with three children, Sarah, Amy and Beth, all who preceded them in death. He is survived by grandsons Spencer Kimball and Logan Kimball, their wives, Nicole and Alicia and great-grand daughters Sydney, Parker and Penelope.
