Bonnie Kay (Hansen) Swenson, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026.
She was born on March 14, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ernest and Helen Hansen of South Minneapolis. She grew up in South Minneapolis with her parents and 11 siblings. As a child she was very shy, soft spoken and polite. She always had a love for children and they loved spending time with her. She married Lonnie Swenson on May 9, 1970 and was a military wife. They raised their family in Rush City for 30 years and spent a lot of time fishing on West Rush Lake. Over the years Bonnie provided childcare for her grand-children, grand-nieces and one of her great grand-daughters, along with other close family/friend's children. All of the children that she cared for called her "Bon Bon" and they all loved her dearly. Bonnie looked forward to her family's "Sunday Fundays" at her daughter's house where they would have a meal together and play games most every Sunday. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters laughing and hoping to win big at the casino. On May 1, 2026 she unexpectedly found out that she had small cell lung cancer and passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026 surrounded by family.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Bauer (Michael) her son, Jason Swenson (Jennifer Snyder), Siblings - Joyce Wurm, Bill Hansen, Tom Hansen (Wendy), Cheri Denardo (Rick), Cindy Swanson (Mitch), Grand-children - Melissa, Ashlee, Amber, Kelly, Jacob and Taylor, Great grand-children - Logan, Chase, Gracie, Ava and Adley, plus many nieces and nephews.
