Beverly Elaine Mercil, age 87, of East Bethel, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Beverly was born on June 1, 1938, in Crown, Minnesota, the daughter of Adolph and Esther (Pearson) Anderson. Throughout her childhood and early adulthood, Beverly’s family moved frequently as her father found work on farms across Central Minnesota. These early experiences shaped her into someone remarkably adaptable, resilient, and gifted at forming lasting friendships wherever life took her.
She graduated from Anoka High School, where she was already known for her strong work ethic, working as a nanny and housekeeper for a local family while completing her studies. In 1956, at the Coon Lake Fishing Tournament, Beverly met the love of her life, Arlan Mercil. After a year of dating, they were married on December 6, 1958, at Glen Cary Lutheran Church in Soderville, Minnesota—beginning a partnership that would span nearly seven decades.
Beverly and Arlan raised their family in Minneapolis before returning to Coon Lake in 1983, a place that remained close to her heart. Over the years, Beverly worked preparing taxes at Lou Ann’s office and later at a local travel agency. Ultimately, she found her true calling as a conservator and guardian, serving families and individuals throughout Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. Deeply compassionate and unwaveringly responsible, Beverly guided people through some of life’s most difficult circumstances. At times, she managed the financial affairs of more than twenty individuals and was widely respected for her integrity and expertise. County workers frequently sought her counsel on the most challenging cases. She retired only after her final clients had aged out of her care and passed away—a testament to her dedication and loyalty.
Outside of work, Beverly was a woman of many talents. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, and cooking, and her home was often filled with the warmth of her creations. Her family fondly remembers the elaborate themed parties she hosted with Arlan—joyful gatherings full of laughter, food, and unforgettable memories. Beverly was a natural leader who liked things done her way, and those who knew her understood that her strong will was matched by a deep love for her family and friends.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clyde Anderson and Durwyn Anderson; and her brother-in-law, Lou Tapson.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 68 years, Arlan Mercil; her sons, Brad and his wife Marie Mercil, Mark and his wife Lori Mercil; her cherished grandchildren, David Mercil, Maddie Mercil, and Tate Mercil; her sister, Melva and her husband Kenneth Ekvall; her sister Carol Tapson, her sisters-in-laws, Carrol Anderson, and Marilyn Anderson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held at a later date.
