Beverly Hutchison

May 31, 1927 — December 13, 2014

Beverly Jean Hutchison was born to Lawrence W. and Mabel Pauline (Fleck) Smith on May 31, 1927. She died December 13, 2014 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, IA due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. Much of her life she was raised by her aunt and uncle Hank and Edith Lienemann of Allison, IA. As a young girl she received Christ as her Savior and grew in her faith throughout her lifetime. It was at the Bethany United Brethren Church in Dumont, IA where she met Gordon William Hutchison, whom she married on December 28, 1946 in Troy, KS.

After graduating from Allison High School Beverly attended Normal School (now UNI) at Cedar Falls, Iowa and taught country school near Laporte City, IA for a short time. From then on she was a homemaker, and a good one. Her hobbies were cleaning, ironing, and keeping their home tidy. Her attention to detail was precise, and she was very methodical and organized. She was a wonderful cook, making terrific potato salad for many occasions.

Beverly and Gordon began their married life farming southwest of Dumont, where their first two children, Dean (April 1948) and Sheryl (July 1949), were born. In 1950 they applied for and were selected to homestead in the Heart Mountain region of Wyoming, where they spent 3 years raising seed peas, alfalfa hay, and children. Their son (Emmett) Lee was born (April 1951) in Tucson, AZ, when Beverly and the children stayed with her aunt & uncle in order to be close to a hospital until after the birth. Due to Gordon's dad's health the family returned to Iowa and soon began farming near Dumont, where their son Mark was born (Nov. 1958).

Beverly and Gordon moved to Tucson, AZ in 1975 when Gordon had to give up farming due to his failing health. There they enjoyed shuffle boarding, bowling, traveling by RV, and meeting new friends. In 2001 they returned to Iowa in order to be closer to family, first living in Hampton and finally in Waverly. She has resided at Bartels since September 2011, first in assisted living, then in memory care.

Beverly is survived by her three sons, Dean (Barb) of Waverly, Lee (Sheryle) of Waverly, and Mark (Tania) of Bagley, WI; her nine grandchildren, Todd (Jennifer) Hutchison, Amy (Marty Wolske) Hutchison, Paul (Susan) Hutchison, Mariah (Dr. Paul) Schumacher, Joel (Christa) Hutchison, Aaron (Jessica) Hutchison, Travis Hutchison, Melissa (Lupe) Guerrero, Tory (Kelsy) Hutchison; 22 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way, one brother, Robert (Mary) Smith and three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Louise (Raymond Smith) Eastman, and Shirley (Stanley) Smith She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon in 2012; her parents; her aunt and uncle, the Lienemanns; siblings Virgil, Raymond, Shirley (Harold Vaughn), and Stanley; and her daughter Sheri (Hutchison) Lake in July 2000.
