Bernie Sausen

September 14, 1946 — June 2, 2025

Wyoming

Bernadean “Bernie” Marie Sausen, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 14, 1946, in California to Albert and Olga Lade, Bernie’s early years were filled with joy and adventure growing up on the family farm. She especially cherished her time driving the tractor and embracing the simple beauty of rural life.

Bernie pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending beauty school, later opening a salon within her own home where her warm and welcoming spirit made clients feel like family. She went on to dedicate herself to working with children, serving as an aide for the Forest Lake School District from 2000 until 2011, providing before- and after-school care. Bernie also lovingly prepared meals at Mattson Funeral Home and in the kitchen at Linwood Elementary.

In 1969, Bernie met the love of her life, Tom, on a blind date set up by his cousin. Just three months later, they exchanged vows at the United Methodist Church in Wyoming, Minnesota—the same church that would become their spiritual home for many years.

Bernie and Tom were blessed with two children, Tracy and Troy, and she beamed with pride over her grandchildren Alyssa, Megan, and Maxwell, and her great-grandchildren Eric, Carson, and Addison. She poured her heart into her family, always hosting with joy, cooking with love, and crafting with care—often sewing handmade clothes for her children and grandchildren.

A devoted member of her church community, Bernie found deep joy in volunteering. She was an active part of the Befrienders group, and she gave her time freely—whether she was making banners, preparing meals, organizing fall dinners, or helping with the church’s beloved ice cream social. Her presence was a steady and dependable source of kindness, support, and service.

Bernie will be remembered as a woman of strong faith, boundless generosity, and gentle strength. She was a pillar of her church and community, a helper and encourager to students and friends, and the heart of her family. Her legacy of love, service, and hospitality will live on in all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Olga Lade; her sister, Maxine; and her precious granddaughter, Megan.

Bernie is survived by her devoted husband, Tom; her children, Tracy (Mark) and Troy; grandchildren, Alyssa and Maxwell (Sydney); and great-grandchildren, Eric, Carson, and Addison; sister, Betty (Elroy) Knaak.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at United Methodist Church, 5459 East Viking Blvd., Wyoming, Minnesota.
