Barry Wayne Shoop, age 77, of Chisago City, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends on Friday, March 27, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 7, 1948, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Barry was the son of Wayne and Doris (Klemmensen) Shoop. He grew up in Circle Pines and graduated from Centennial High School, carrying with him a strong work ethic and a gift for connecting with others.
Barry began his career at GTA in the mailroom, but it didn’t take long for him to discover his passion for printing. Determined to pursue it, he attended trade school, launching a career that lasted over four decades.
It was at GTA where Barry met the love of his life, Lucy LaVenture. Barry and Lucy were married on October 11, 1969, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset, Wisconsin.
Together, they built a life centered on family, first in Lake Elmo and Stillwater, before settling on Green Lake in Chisago City in 1985.
Barry embraced life fully and simply. He loved hunting, fishing, cheering on his beloved Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was an avid bowler and loved volunteering for the Paralyzed Veterans bowling league. He was also a gifted cook, best known for his homemade pizza.
More than anything, Barry will be remembered for his love of family, humor and warmth. A natural jokester, he had an easy way of making people laugh, delivering one-liners with perfect timing and a twinkle in his eye. He brought joy into everyday moments and made those around him feel at ease.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Doris Shoop; his son, Brian Shoop; his brother, Terry Shoop; his brother-in-law, Dewey Wegan; and his niece, Kayla Lewellin.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of over 56 years, Lucy; his sons, Mike (Samantha) Shoop and Steve (Kelly) Shoop; his daughter-in-law, Kim Shoop; his grandchildren, Tori, Anna, Emily, Lindsey, Becky, and Austin; his great-grandchildren, Jameson and Carmynn; his siblings, Bonnie (Don) Lewellin, Sandy Wegan, and Randy Shoop; his sister-in-law, Tammy Shoop; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd., Lindstrom, Minnesota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
