Arlyce Elaine (Anderson) Jacobson, 92, died on January 4, 2021 in her home in Forest Lake, MN with family by her side. She was born on November 29, 1928 to Axel and Edna (Froseth) Anderson in their home in Minnehaha County, SD. She attended elementary school in Sioux Falls, SD and middle grades in a country school near Brandon, SD. She graduated with honors in 1946 from Brandon High School. She received a two-year education certificate from Augustana College in 1948 and earned her BA Degree in Education from Dakota State College in 1972.

Arlyce was baptized, confirmed and married at Swedona Covenant Church, rural Brandon, SD. She married Clair Jacobson of Lake Norden, SD on October 8, 1949. They resided in Brandon, SD, rural Hayti, SD and upon retirement lived in Battlement Mesa, Colorado. They had 62 years together before his death in 2011. Arlyce then moved to Scandia, MN to live near family.

She taught first grade in Watertown, SD and Valley Springs, SD before joining the Castlewood, SD public schools teaching reading, kindergarten and first grade. After retiring in 1991 she continued to substitute, tutor and volunteer in South Dakota, Colorado and Scandia, MN.

Her interests were in education and learning, reading several books each week, sharing her knowledge with children, parents and teachers, church and music. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Lake Norden, SD, where she played piano, organ, sang duets with her husband, and taught Sunday School. Once she moved to Minnesota she attended the Ambassador Sunday School Class at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom and was a proud member of the Scandia-Marine Lions Club.

Arlyce is survived by six children; David (Susan) of Chesapeake, VA, Sally (Patrick) Nixon of Pittsburg, KS, Kevin (Sheila) of Vermillion, SD, Lynette (Steve) Hubler of Bondurant, IA, Jeff (Bonnie) of Ivor, VA, and Nancy Jacobson (Paul Mayasich) of Forest Lake, MN, two brothers; Eldon Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD and Vernon (Bonnie) Anderson of Grand Rapids, MN along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; John Jacobson, Amy (Johnathon) Upperman, Brian (Stephanie) Nixon, Andrew (Jenn) Nixon, Laura Jacobson, Amanda Jacobson, Gillian (Mitchell) Lawley, Garrett Hubler, Shannon Jacobson, Christina (Ryan) O’Lear and Dylan Thaler and 8 great-grandchildren; Hope, Matthias, Ella, Oliver, Axel, Colby, Everett and Amelia.

Arlyce is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A graveside service will take place at noon Saturday, January 9th at Swedona Covenant Church Cemetery, rural Brandon, SD. Social distancing and masks are required.
