Anita Hollihan

July 23, 1933 — August 9, 2022

Anita Mae (Arcand) Hollihan, age 89, passed away on August 9, 2022, in Stillwater, MN. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years Laurence D. Hollihan, currently of Oak Park Heights, MN. She was the beloved mother of Thomas Hollihan (Patricia Riley) of Los Angeles, CA; Daniel Hollihan (Louann) of Centuria, WI; Lynn Bruce (Roger) of Stacy, MN; James Hollihan (Laura) of Hugo, MN; Rita Hendricks (Kevin) of Forest Lake, MN; and Anita Hollihan McKinley of St. Paul, MN. She was a devoted grandmother to Alexandra Crawford (Justin); Sean Hollihan; Jeffrey Schrul (Leslie); Carrie LeTourneau (Quintin), Daniel Hollihan (Nicole), Jodi Bauer, Heidi Solomonson (Jason), Michael Bruce (Coral), Kristine Bruce; Tony Hollihan; Nicole Staloch (Thomas); Jessica Staloch (Jon), Kristen Comparetto (David) and Matthew Hendricks. Her grandchildren were also wonderfully prolific, as she was the great-grandmother to Riley Anita Crawford, Jordan Schrul, Bailey LeTourneau, Jack LeTourneau, Michael LeTourneau, Devon Hollihan, Madison Hollihan, Mitchell Swanson, Marie Russ, Anna Russ, Brandon Arm (Brooke), Grace Solomonson, Kayla Bruce, Kaleb Bruce, Faith Hollihan, Hayden Staloch, Jackson Staloch, Averi Mortenson, Teagan Mortenson, Parker Comparetto and Lincoln Comparetto. She even boasted great-great grandchildren Kinsley Hollihan and Daxton Swanson. She always loved babies and was blessed to be able to hold new great and great-great grandchildren during the last two years of her life.

Anita was born in Hugo, MN to the late Andrew and Irene Arcand, and grew up on a farm near White Bear Lake. She was preceded in death by her grandson Jimmy Hollihan and her sister Patricia Nadeau. She is survived by her brother Darwin Joseph Arcand, and sisters Loretta Wedge (Jerry) and Diane Lukecart (Brian). She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren who she deeply loved but who are too numerous to mention.

Anita loved cats (especially Norton and Sally)! She also loved to cook, bake, knit, crochet, and play cards. It is likely that every home in the family possesses and treasures some of her crocheted crafts. She loved to dance and sing, and her singing voice was unforgettable, as anyone who sat next to her during mass could attest. She spent several years living in Las Vegas where she made many new friends and enjoyed defying the odds on the video poker machines. She loved to travel enjoying many cross-country driving trips as well as excursions to Europe and cruises with Larry and other family members.

She was always warm, friendly, and outgoing and loved to meet and strike up conversations even with complete strangers. She spent her last few months at the Estates of Greeley Long Term Care Facility in Stillwater where she was perhaps the patient who received the greatest number of weekly visitors and where she was given loving and compassionate care that she and her family greatly appreciated.
