Larry Bartels

February 24, 1938 — November 10, 2012

Larry Bartels, age 74 , of Hugo. Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather. Passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from Alzheimer's. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Martha; brother, Leroy. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Marcia; children, Kurt (Sherry), Joelle (Jay) Roberts; grandchildren, Josh, Alex, Megan, Shannon, Lauren; brother, Jerry (Aletha); sisters, Carrie Foss, Delores Boe. Larry retired from Honeywell after 28 years of service. He proudly served our county for thirty years in the United States Army and the Minnesota National Guard. He retired from service as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his retirement, he became an active volunteer at Warner Nature Center where he continued his love for the outdoors. Larry cherished the simple things in life, biking, hiking, travel and just watching wildlife. But most of all he treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. Whether they were skiing, camping or attending their sporting events; being with his family in his words made his life worthwhile! Larry was a generous man with a big heart, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and volunteer his time. His generous spirit will continue even in his passing; with his wishes of having his body donated for research to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to Dr. Northwood and the staff of Fairview Hospice for their devoted care and support. At Larry's request, a private family memorial service was held. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
