Joseph Doege

April 19, 1928 — July 16, 2012

Joseph Vernon Doege, 84, of Hugo, MN died peacefully surrounded by his five children on July 16, 2012. He was preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Benjamin, Sylvester, Virgil, and sister Dolores Dols and is survived by his brother Tony (Carol) Doege. Joseph was raised on a farm in Long Prairie, MN, and throughout his life, he loved living in the country, being amidst nature, and in particular, fishing. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1950 – 1952, serving his country in the Korean War. In his early years, Joseph had an adventurous spirit and left his small town farm to work on a ranch in the west and then to Florida to work as a welder. During his time in Florida, Joseph married Delia Doege (Lynch), and eventually, they moved their family back to Minnesota. Together they had five children: Cynthia (Tom) McKenna, Robin (Cindy) Doege, Gerald (Candice) Doege, Michelle Doege (Vindu Balani), Rosemarie (Bret) Doege-Dryden and six grandchildren: Nicole and Kyle McKenna, Jacob and Jenna Doege, Kelly Doege, and Finnian Dryden. While raising his family, Joseph worked for Hauenstein and Burmeister as a welder and Forest Lake Public Schools for 22 years, first as a Custodian and later as a Maintenance Mechanic. His outstanding talent for designing and engineering mechanical tools and equipment to improve work efficiency was well known by those with whom he worked especially during his tenure with the Forest Lake Public Schools. On a personal level, Joseph was a kind and gentle man. His generous heart and embracing spirit was noticed and valued by everyone he met. Joseph's children and grandchildren were the center of his existence, and he will especially be remembered by them for his unconditional love as he continues to live through them in their own journey of life.
