Jeanette Sausen, Extraordinary Wife, Mother and Grandmother, age 87, Formerly of Scandia, passed away on April 24, 2016. Jeanette was born just south of Scandia on August 7, 1928 the youngest child of Reuben and Ida Nelson. She attended Goose Lake School and graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1946. She met her husband, Earl, on a blind date in April of 1951. They married April 19, 1952 and bought the Croonquist farm. Together they were successful dairy farmers and warm hosts to countless family and friends. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling until Earl's death in 1987. Family was important to both Jeanette and Earl. They raised 3 daughters and welcomed 3 sons-in-law to the family. Jeanette was grandma extraordinaire. Grandma's house was a favorite place: riding the garden tractors, sliding on the hill, and of course, raiding the infamous treat drawer. Her homemade caramel rolls were the best! They magically came out of the oven the moment the grandkids got out of the car. She knew and appreciated the unique personalities and talents of each grandchild and always encouraged their pursuits. She was a life- long gardener favoring flowers over vegetables. Her yard blossomed with geraniums, hanging baskets of double impatiens, begonias, bleeding hearts…and of course her favorite gladiolas. Being an avid Twins fan provided much entertainment and good natured bantering at family gatherings. Jeanette was also a "card warrior," showering birthday, anniversary or get well cards to many she knew. A life-long member of Elim, faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was proud to say she was baptized, confirmed and married at Elim. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Glen) Sackmann, Patricia (Dean) Myers, Diane (Alan) Carlson; grandchildren, Julie Sackmann, Laura (Jon) Noland, Anna (Michael) Melby, David (Lynnea) Myers, Mark (fiancée, Jennifer VanCuyk), Rebecca Carlson, Sarah (fiancé, Cody Baker), Erik Carlson, Timothy Carlson; Great grandchildren, Trey and Chase Noland, Lydia and Darla Melby; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband, Earl; brothers, Norman and Ragnar Nelson; sisters, Anna Maldena Dorma and Ellen Peterson.
